NUR 256 Fundamental Nursing Concepts

DESCRIPTION FALL 2024:
This course introduces the student to fundamental concepts of professional nursing practice. Students begin to use assessment skills and the nursing process as a foundation for clinical judgement. Emphasis is placed on provision of safe, evidence-based, and holistic nursing care. Laboratory and clinical experiences provide opportunities for development of fundamental nursing skills and competencies.

REVISED DESCRIPTION SPRING/SUMMER 2025:
This course introduces students to the foundational principles of professional nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on the nursing process as a framework for developing clinical judgment, providing safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care. Students will explore essential nursing concepts, including therapeutic communication, health assessment, health promotion/disease, and the use of healthcare technologies. Laboratory and clinical experiences offer hands-on opportunities to develop fundamental nursing skills and competencies in diverse care environments.
